Today, we’re celebrating the opening of Phoenix-Micron Europe SL (“PMI Europe”). Based in Valencia, Spain, PMI Europe will manufacture systems in Spain for distribution to Europe, the UK, Asia, and the Pacific. What does that mean for you? Systems that are a product of the EU, lower VAT, support in your time zone, and easier shipping logistics. Plus, you’ll see us around the EU and UK ophthalmic events more than in past years.
PMI Europe is a subsidiary of Phoenix-Micron, Inc. Rochelle Zingarelli, our Head of Sales for the region served by PMI Europe, and I moved to Europe to launch and support this new venture, demonstrating our commitment to our global customer base.
Our headquarters in Bend, Oregon, USA continues as our primary R&D, manufacturing and advanced technical support center.
What This Means If You’re in the EU
Procurement gets simpler. You’re purchasing from an EU-based entity. That means Euro invoicing, straightforward VAT handling, and no import tariffs from the US. If you’ve ever watched a purchase order sit in procurement limbo because of international invoicing complications, this matters.
Support is in your time zone. Our team in Valencia provides front-line sales and technical support during European business hours. The same quality of support our customers have come to expect, without the time zone math.
Demos come to you. We have demo equipment stationed in Europe. Whether you want a hands-on demonstration in your lab or a virtual walkthrough, we can make that happen without shipping equipment across the Atlantic.
Simplified logistics. Systems manufactured in Spain ship to European destinations in days, not weeks. No ocean freight. No customs delays.
What This Means If You’re in the UK
The UK has its own trade relationship with both the US and the EU, and we’re mindful of that. What PMI Europe means for UK researchers: a manufacturing and support base that is significantly closer than Oregon. Shorter shipping times, time zone-aligned support, and the ability to bring demo equipment to your lab without transatlantic logistics.
We’re working to make the procurement and invoicing process as smooth as possible for UK institutions, and we’d welcome the chance to discuss your specific requirements.
What This Means If You’re in Asia or the Pacific
With teams in both Oregon, USA and Valencia, Spain, Phoenix-Micron now covers business hours from the Pacific Rim through Western Europe. That means when you need support in Sydney, Singapore, Seoul, or Mumbai, one of our teams is working.
Systems manufactured in Spain also offer improved shipping logistics to many Asian destinations compared to the US West Coast. And for procurement, we can work with you to find the invoicing and logistics path that makes the most sense for your institution.
What Stays the Same
The things that matter most aren’t changing. MICRON systems are still designed and engineered by the same team that’s been building preclinical imaging instruments for nearly two decades. Our product R&D stays in Bend, Oregon. Our technical support standards stay exactly where they are.
We’ve built MICRON systems for researchers in more than 25 countries. Over 1,000 published research papers include data and images captured on MICRON cameras. That track record is what we’re building on, not departing from.
Why Valencia
Valencia is Spain’s third-largest startup hub and ranks among the top 100 emerging tech ecosystems globally, according to the Global Startup Ecosystem Report 2025. The city is home to over 1,600 active startups, with a tech ecosystem valued at $3.9 billion and growing. Companies like Microsoft and IBM have established hubs here, and Valencia was named European Green Capital in 2024. For us, it offers strong logistics infrastructure, access to skilled technical talent, and a geographic position that works well for serving the EU, UK, and Asian markets.
Let’s Talk
If you’re a researcher in the EU, UK, Asia, or the Pacific and you want to learn more about what this means for your lab, I’d welcome the conversation. Whether you’re an existing MICRON user or evaluating imaging platforms for a new study, we’re here.
